CALL UPON GOD

When you are down
Woke up sad and it seems the day is going to be bad!
Call upon God
When you work and your boss is making work for you unbearable
Your colleagues at work are being uncooperative and unfriendly
Pray to your maker.
When that marriage is taking your life away
Your spouse has become something or someone you have never imagined
When your children are going wayward and you have sleepless nights with wet pillows
Before you talk to that friend in the office, that counselor down the road
Before you take the phone and call your parents!
Lock yourself up in your closet and cry unto God first.
Call unto God; until he answers, don't come out of the closet.
When the fiance or fiancée who has promised to marry you keeps cheating and treats you with disdain.
Come out from the emotional and love blind blanket
Watch and pray
Pray until God speaks!
When life has become so difficult and you cannot make two ends meet
Everything your hand finds doing crumbles.
You seem not to succeed at anything you do
Move away from that crowd
Move away from the grumblers and complainers
Make a plea to your maker
Never give up,
Keep praying
Keep working
Keep believing and trusting God
The light will surely shine again.
See you on the bright side of the day, week, month and year.

Hausa Koko!

It was bright and sunny afternoon
I sat under the mango tree
In centre of the city
With my calabash of
Hausa koko and roasted groundnut from the hot sands of the savanna

I swore to myself
Any insect that would drop from the tree
And find its way in the calabash of koko
Oh ! My God ! , Will go down the memory lane
In my throat.
With my sachet of sweaty water
I was ready for anything
Down my salivary throat.

Passers-by could not walk past
Without giving me a funny stare
Kai! I was never bothered
By their inquisitive curious looks
I enjoyed my delicacy
Awkwark ha!
Hausa koko in a hot sunny afternoon
Well, that's me

After I had had my nutritious sumptuous meal
I stretched on a lazy chair to take a nap.
The nap was however
Short lived!
Ah! Hausa koko + groundnut + any unfortunate insect+ sweaty sachet of water= an afternoon of a long nap, but can sometimes be really short.
Hahahahahahahaha!

MY DEARLY BELOVED

It was cool quiet Saturday morning
I was in church early enough to start my mourning
No one was dead
To everyone around me
It was a time for joy
But i was in a state of shock
The only comfort i could give myself was a silent solemn mourning

I sat in first row
In my neatly pressed black tuxedo
In a cool cold quiet morning
I was in a very dark sunglasses
Darker than that of the security detail of President Obama
Close to the action
I never wanted to miss a glimpse
I sat and watched
My lovebird for years
Marry another man

My worst moment arrived
As the priest pronounced
The covenant vows of marriage
Every word came to me
As a sword
Sharper than Lord Blades
Pushed through
The soft tissues of my heart
That did not end there
The veil was removed
I could behold
My beloved
Who promised
Me her love
As the veil is rolled up
I could feel
My heart bleed
The drops of blood
Were thicker than
The tears of Jesus
In the garden of Gethsemane

As the lips draw closer
My heart was failing
My hope was falling
I could feel the church warming

Yaaaaaaaaaaaw!
Wake up!
You've been sleeping too much lately.

 FATHER GIVE ME A VOICE

Father, grant me a voice

When all voices are shut

And no one can speak

Grant me a voice

When silence

Out of fear

And personal expediency

Have become the order

Grant me a voice!

Father grant me a voice

To speak and to stand out

When all men want to sit

And keep silent

Out of fear of intimidation

Out of fear of deprivation

Out of fear of incarceration

Father, grant me a voice!

Grant me a voice, father

To speak against

The forced silence of the people

When the hearts and spirits of the people

Are crushed!

Souls caged and

Voice boxes broken

Father, grant me a voice!

Father, grant me a voice

When the voiceless and poor

Are deprived of their livelihood

When they are marginalized

And terrorized

When no one speaks and cares for the poor

Grant me a voice, father!

Father, grant me a voice

To speak to the injustice

To speak to the wickedness

To speak to the marginalization

To speak against the segregation and oppression

To speak against the hypocrisy and apathy

To speak against the lukewarmness and sinfulness

To speak the killing of spirit and life

To speak against the killing and maiming of the future

Grant me a voice!

Father, grant me a voice

To stand on the rooftop

And cry out your warning

To the nations and to their leaders

Father grant me a voice

To keep watch over the your city

And warn your people

Of your impending danger and destruction

To warn the righteous of their compromise and cooperation

To warn the upright of their apathy and silence

A voice to awaken

To awaken the sleeping believers

Of the Almighty’s wrath

Father, grant me a voice!

Father, grant me a voice

A fearless voice

A fearless spirit

A fearless soul

A fearless heart

A voice to speak

A voice to cry out

And a voice to warn

Grant me a voice,

Almighty father!

JE DOIS ME PRÉPARER!

Je dois me préparer!
Préparez acceuillir un ami
Un ami je ne veux pas voir
Un ami qui
On a rien en commun
Un ami parfois méchant
Parfois amiable

Je dois me préparer!
Préparez pour un ami
Un ami que personne
Ne le veux pas acceuillir
Un ami qui n’est jamais,
Jamais bienvenu dans aucune maison

Je dois me préparer!
Preparer pour un ami
Qui n’annonce ni son arrive
Ni sa depart
Un ami est comme l’air
Il est partout
A n’importe où
A n’importe quel moment

Je dois me préparer!
Préparez pour cet ami
Il visitera chacun un jour
Invite ou pas
Il te visitera un jour
Si tu veux ou pas!
Soyez-préparez
Préparez-toujours!

THE UNINVITED GUEST

Have you ever received an uninvited guest?
He comes in when uninvited
He does not announce
When he will come
He does not call
He does not send a text message
He does not even send a whats-app or viber message

We all know
He will one day visit
When he will visit
How he will visit
We cannot tell

He is an uninvited guest
In every home
In the home of the rich
And in the home of the poor

He is a guest
At every occasion
Whether invited or not

He enters every meeting at will
In boardroom
In the church
In the mosque
In the school
In the classroom
And even in the market place
And I mean everywhere
He is just not invited in any home.
Death stay away
Next time!
Please!
Please!
And please again!
Announce your coming.

Very sad ! Komla
You opened your door to this uninvited guest.
Sorry!
Sorry!
Sorry!

EVERYTHING I DO, ETERNITY FIRST!

1
How well have you considered God and eternity
In all your plans and aspirations
Have you considered God and eternity
In the church you where you want to worship

The marriage plans
How well have you considered God and eternity
Would it glorify God!

That career you are pursuing
How well that is fit into God’s plan for you
Have you considered God and eternity

That school you want to attend
Would it help you glorify God
Have you considered God and eternity

The ministry you are pursuing
Have you considered whether
It is God’s divine purpose for your life

The friends you keep
The places you visit together
The chats you have
The parties you attend
Have you considered God and eternity

That business
Yes!
That business, is it God’s plan
Would it honour God
That business contract
That bribe you are paying
Have you considered God eternity

That board
You want to join by force
That position you are killing to get
And killing to keep
Is that God’s way
Have you considered God and eternity

That relationship!
Yes! That relationship
With the gentleman
With that young woman
With that manager
For that money
For that car
Is that the way of God!

In everything you do considered eternity first!
God first!
