GOD, OTHERS AND YOU
Have you ever stood in front of a mirror and asked yourself what God, other people and you think about you?
It is not easy to know what people really think about you. Most often their assessment of who you is based on what they see you do, what they hear you say and the kind of people they see you associate with. Their assessment of you also can be based on their preferences. If you always do what they like, you would be in their good books; if not, they would judge you otherwise.
This has caused many people to veer off course because of what is deemed as “public opinion”. They live to please others and therefore do what people expect of them. From the dresses they wear to the food they eat, the friends they make, the places they go to and even the churches they fellowship with, they are influenced by public opinion. What would become of a “public opinion” driven life?
Do what people think about you reflect in any sense what you think about yourself? How many people have really made it in life or lived a fulfilled life trying to model their lives after public expectation or “public opinion”? If you are living your life based on public opinion or what people expect of you then I must be frank with you, “you are bound to being a perpetual slave to public opinion”.
When you critically assess yourself, who do you think you are? As the good book (The Bible) says, “as a man thinketh so is he”. What you think of yourself obviously reflects to a greater extent who you are. If you think you are a hardworking, invariably you are or you end up becoming, or put yourself on the way of becoming a hardworking person. On the other hand if says “I’m lazy” or “as for me I know I am lazy”; that is what they are thinking and they end up being lazy in whatever they do.
However, one may be deceived into thinking he is who he really is not. This normally happens when our ways of thinking and doing things are based on what people say or think about us. Building a positive self image all starts from what we think. Whatever we build in this world, the foundation of that starts from the mind (the thinking warehouse) and not what people or others ay or think about us.
But, does what others or you think about you truly reflect who you really are? Certainly not, because most often your thinking or that of others does not take in consideration who created us and why he created us. For instance a television cannot perform otherwise other than what its manufacturer made it for, to project images and sound. The only one who can candidly, without prejudice or external influence is our creator, the Almighty God. The thoughts of God truly reflect who man really is and what his earthly assignment is. The thoughts of God are His words found in the holy book: THE BIBLE. We can know who we really are and what our purpose on earth is only when we constantly consult the manual for life (THE BIBLE).
You can know what God thinks of you from consulting the good book, what people think of you by constantly interacting with your friends, relatives and colleagues and about what you think of yourself is by doing an auto analysis or a constant self assessment. For the latter two to be a true reflection, they must be influenced by the first.
